Taking London: The Old Ages

A free browser strategy MMO. Build a city, raise an army, and fight your way across Britain and Ireland for the throne of London.

Taking London: The Old Ages is a classic-style, real-time city-building and war game that plays in your browser, on a PC or a phone, with nothing to download. Every player shares one persistent world: you start with a single small town, and how far it grows - and who it answers to - is up to you.

What you do

  • Build your city. Twenty kinds of building, from cottages, farms and sawmills to the Academy, Barracks and Walls, each upgraded level by level.
  • Manage five resources. Food, wood, stone, iron and gold - set your tax rate, buy and sell at the Marketplace, and keep your people fed.
  • Research technologies. Eighteen of them at the Academy, from Agriculture and Stoneworking to Warfare Strategy and Engineering.
  • Train an army. Twelve kinds of troop, from workers, warriors and scouts to cavalry, cataphracts, ballistae and catapults.
  • Recruit heroes. Find them at the Inn, keep them loyal in the Feasting Hall, and give them command of your armies or your city.
  • Take the land around you. Capture valleys for extra resources, found new cities, and lay siege to the historic cities of the British Isles - from Canterbury and Cork to Edinburgh, Dublin and London itself.
  • Join an alliance. Band together with other players, keep each other informed, and go to war as one.
  • Automate the routine with Pro mode. Write goals for your city and let it handle the busywork - see the Pro mode guide.

Remember the classic browser strategy games?

If you spent 2009 and 2010 building cities in a browser tab - waiting on construction timers, scouting your neighbours and sending out armies at 3am - Taking London will feel like home. It is built around that classic formula: a timber-and-gold interface, a big shared map, and slow-burning alliance wars fought over days and weeks. Coming from Evony Age I or Age II? Here's what to expect.
